San Francisco felt more like Chicago as the wind leapt in from the sea. Dave and Paul made up their very own three bridge tour of the district and we all did the required Golden Gate Bridge boat trip.

We drove to Yosemite where we stayed for a couple of days. The sights were outstanding both from the canyon floor and on top of the cliffs.

We took a day trip to cover the the Hoover Dam, the Grand Canyon and the Joshua Tree National Park. The highlight was the heart-in-mouth helicopter ride down the canyon wall landing on the banks of the Colarado river.

Driving "the beast" was almost as spectacular as the destinations. Even Ged and Jane dutifully took turns behind the wheel.

Vegas is a unique destination. Atlantic City may hold a similar lure for gamblers but Vegas is bigger, more extravagant, more ostentatious and the casinos are more welcoming. They were one the night that Jane, Ged and myself all banked cash. Hotels like the Bellagio, the Venice, Caesar's Palace and our own Luxor were all awesome. However, you don't really get to capture the essense of Vegas until the sun goes down and the neon lights come on.

Finally we drove to up the west coast pacfific freeway to Los Angeles, via Palm Springs and the San Diego Zoo. The city of angels isn't always the most friendly of cities but it was notable for Venice Beach and our stars houses and Universal Studios Tour.
